Cycle

The Cotswold Way is one of England’s finest long-distance walking trails, running for 102 miles between Chipping Campden and Bath. However, it’s important to know that the Cotswold Way National Trail is designated primarily as a footpath, and cycling is not permitted on most sections of the official route. That said, the wider Cotswolds offer fantastic cycling opportunities, and it’s possible to enjoy much of the same scenery, villages and viewpoints by using nearby bridleways, byways and quiet country roads.

Can you cycle the Cotswold Way?

In short: not as a continuous, official trail.

  • The majority of the Cotswold Way follows public footpaths where cycling is not legally allowed.
  • Some short sections overlap with bridleways or byways where cycling is permitted, but these are the exception rather than the rule.
  • Cycling on footpath-only sections can cause damage, create conflict with walkers, and may lead to enforcement action.

For these reasons, we strongly recommend not attempting to cycle the full Cotswold Way route itself.
